Merke: Multiplett- Zustände sind multi- fach entartet in dem Sinn, dass die charakterisierenden Eigenschaften der Wellenfunktion gegeben sind und daraus die bestehende Entartung multi- fach ist. Das bedeutet. Bei Spin und Bahndrehimpuls ist das n. Energieniveau ein 2n²- plett, wenn keine Wechselwirkung mit äußeren Feldern stattfindet. (In Wahrheit sind jedoch auch diese Zustände nicht mehr vollständig entartet, da schon das magnetische Moment des Elektronenspins mit dem des Bahndrehimpuls wechselwirkt und die Entartung teilweise aufhebt. Im Fall 1) wäre nun der Bahn- Anteil antisymmetrisch: :<math>{{\Psi }_{-}}^{(0)},{{E}_{-}}</math>. Dieser Potenzialverlauf ist jedoch grundsätzlich abstoßend. Es kann nicht zur Bindung kommen. Das Orbital ist antibindend. der Spin- Anteil ist antisymmetrisch und der Bahn- Anteil symmetrisch: :<math>\begin{align} & S={{s}_{1}}+{{s}_{2}}=\frac{1}{2}-\frac{1}{2}=0 \\ & {{m}_{s}}=0 \\ \end{align}</math> Die beiden Spins stehen also antiparallel und der Zustand ist bindend. Es kommt zur Bindung. Denn: Der Bahn- Anteil ist symmetrisch: :<math>{{\Psi }_{+}}^{(0)},{{E}_{+}}</math> Die Aufenthaltswahrscheinlichkeit der Elektronen zwischen den Kernen ist erhöht.
